What Does Freedom Mean to You?

When I first began traveling alone in my motorhome, I experienced a lot of fear.
There were so many things I didn't know. What if something went wrong? What if I broke down somewhere? What if I found myself in a situation I didn't know how to handle?
And, of course, sometimes things did go wrong!
I remember one time when I had a flat tire on a road in the middle of nowhere. There was barely enough room to pull off. Fortunately, my motorhome had dual rear wheels, and I was able to figure things out.
It certainly wasn't the kind of adventure I had planned!
But something interesting happened as I continued traveling. With every challenge I faced, I began to realize that I was capable of handling more than I had imagined.
I was learning to trust myself.
And with that trust came a wonderful sense of freedom.
The Road of Possibility
When I wrote The Sacred Road: A Guided Travel & Reflection Journal for Self-Discovery on the Road, I devoted an entire chapter to freedom.
I called it The Road of Possibility.
At the time, I was thinking about the freedom I had discovered through traveling independently. The freedom to make my own decisions, choose my own direction, change my plans, and discover what I was capable of doing.
But the more I reflected on freedom, the more I realized there was something much deeper beneath those experiences.
Because freedom isn't just about being able to go wherever you want.
The greatest freedom we can experience is the freedom to be who we truly are.
Remembering Who We Are
Think about how much of our lives we spend becoming who we think we're supposed to be.
We become daughters, mothers, partners, employees, caregivers, and responsible adults. We learn to meet expectations, fulfill obligations, and adapt to the world around us.
And somewhere along the way, we can lose touch with parts of ourselves.
Our dreams. Our intuition. Our joy. Our connection to that deeper part of ourselves that knows who we really are.
Over the years, I've come to understand that our life experiences are part of the journey back to ourselves.
Every challenge we've overcome, every disappointment, every unexpected joy, and every person who has touched our lives has helped bring us to this moment.
Those experiences aren't simply making us into someone new. They are helping us remember who we have always been. And what a wonderful discovery that can be!
To reach a place in your life where you can say, This is who I am. Without apology. Without pretending. Without needing to meet someone else's expectations. Just being your true, authentic self.
And when we begin to live that way, something magical happens.
The Magic of Alignment
There is something extraordinary about living authentically.
When we allow ourselves to be who we truly are, we come into alignment. For me, that means coming into alignment with the Divine.
And when we're in that magical place of being our authentic selves and living in alignment with the Divine, the world begins to look different. We become more aware of our intuition. We recognize the messages and guidance that come from Spirit. We begin to trust our inner wisdom.
Instead of constantly questioning ourselves or worrying about what we're supposed to do next, we become more comfortable listening to that quiet voice within.
The road opens up. The world becomes full of possibilities. And there is so much joy in that!
It doesn't mean life will never present another challenge. It doesn't mean we will always know what lies around the next bend. But we learn that we don't have to know everything in advance. We can trust ourselves. We can trust the journey. And we can trust our connection to something greater.
That, to me, is where the magic lives.
The Sacred Journey Within
One of the things I love about The Sacred Road is that you don't actually have to be traveling to experience a sacred journey. The road can be a highway stretching across the desert. It can be a quiet walk through the woods. Or it can be the journey through an important season of your life.
What makes the road Sacred isn't necessarily where it takes us. It's what we discover along the way. And sometimes the most extraordinary discovery is simply remembering who we are.
I hope that wherever you are on your journey, you will discover that wonderful freedom.
The freedom to trust yourself.
The freedom to follow your own inner compass.
And most of all, the freedom to be who you truly are.
Because when we find that freedom, when we live authentically and in alignment with the Divine, a whole world of possibilities opens before us.
And that's when the magic begins.

I have found so much freedom in excepting myself as I am. I don’t have to live up to anyone's standards. It's been life changing.
